Radiology is the medical science that utilises radiation and radioactivity in imaging technologies like x-rays, CT (computed tomography) scans and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans to diagnose and treat disease. Consultant Radiologists interpret and report on these investigations. They are also involved in investigations such as barium meals and barium enemas, as well as isotope scans and mammography. Some Consultant Radiologists are involved in more interventional radiology procedures such as discography and bone biopsies. (Source: www.jobs.nhs.uk).
