Clinical Scientists are specialists in the fields of histocompatibility and immunogenetics (H&I) or haemostasis and thrombosis.

H&I Clinical Scientists are involved in the genetic matching of prospective organ and stem cell donors with patients by tissue typing and assessing the closeness of the match. They are involved in the investigation of blood transfusion based reactions and they also maintain the donor register.

A Clinical Scientist in haemostasis and thrombosis tests and aims to identify specific irregularities in the blood which may upset the balance between blood coagulation (clotting) and anti-coagulants.
