A critical care unit (CCU) nurse is a registered nurse who works with patients who are at-risk of or experiencing life-threatening conditions. Care is usually provided within a High Dependency Unit (intensive care unit or critical care unit) of a hospital. They act as the primary patient advocate and maintain vigilant watch over patients in the unit, often being required to deliver immediate medical intervention.
