Confessions of a Kanuk - Moving to the UK

My decision to relocate and start my new life in the UK was a big uneasy dilemma. The idea itself did not come to me overnight, it was long journey researching and planning. The thought of travelling and experiencing life abroad washed away all the doubts and fears I had.

The UK is considered one of the leading countries in Sonography, so I thought that it would be an excellent opportunity for my personal and professional development to join the rows of British Sonographers.

To be honest, I did not really have a clue where to start nor how the recruitment process worked in the UK, back home in Canada I had never heard about agencies and/or Locum positions for Sonographers. I decided to give it a try and contacted RIG Healthcare among several other agencies. RIG Healthcare answered me on the same day! What was even better, Fariba, a specialist ultrasound recruitment consultant from RIG Healthcare, arranged an interview over the phone on a day that was convenient for me.

Over the phone, all the queries I had were answered in an honest, respectful and encouraging manner. When I say honest, I mean she gave me a clear picture of what my chances were to finding a position that I was looking for and what work opportunities there were available to me rather than telling me what I may have wanted to hear.

The truth is no other agency I had contacted was available to offer me advice, support and consideration prior to my professional registration and visa application! With RIG Healthcare I was supported and encouraged thorough my HCPC registration and my visa application process.

Finally, I received a positive and so dearly awaited for reply from the HCPC. Within a week an informal conference call have been arranged with my prospective manager who talked me through the work environment, opportunities that the department had to offer me and what they would expect from me.

From the first days of my application online right up to me now being in my current position, using RIG Healthcare’s website I was supported and encouraged!

Moreover, my current line manager and Fariba, met me at the airport and brought me right to the door of the hospital accommodation. Not to mention that on that same day, I enjoyed a wonderful meal at a restaurant in genuine company!

I am very grateful for the support that I received from RIG Healthcare and Fariba! And I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend RIG Healthcare to a friend.

Main bonus features for working with RIG Healthcare are:

  • They are always available via phone and email to answer your questions.
  • They call you, so there is no international phone call fees involved.
  • They are there to find a position that will suit YOU.
  • The team is composed of understanding, supportive and hardworking people.
  • They have a vast selection of locum and permanent ultrasound positions are available, both with excellent rates.

At last, currently I am working as a permanent Sonographer for the NHS. But what is great with RIG Healthcare is that I know that if want to go into a locum ultrasound job, working part or full time, the door is always open!
